Based on the life of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, the film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ has been streamed on Netflix on April 12. Meanwhile, news has surfaced that late actress Sridevi had a heart-felt desire to work with Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila in a Hindi film. But Chamkila rejected his offer.
Chamkila said that they do not know Hindi. Then Sridevi agreed to do a Punjabi film with him. However, even after this, Sridevi’s dream remained incomplete. Chamkila’s close friend Swarn Sivia revealed this in an interview.
Sridevi was a big fan of Chamkila
Swarna Sivia said, ‘Sridevi was a big fan of Amar Singh Chamkila. He also offered Chamkila to be the hero in a film. But Chamkila refused him saying that she does not know Hindi. Then Sridevi also offered him Hindi training for a month. Chamkila also refused to do this and said, ‘He will lose 10 lakh rupees in that one month.’
Then Sridevi expressed her desire to work with him in a Punjabi film but that too was not possible.
Chakkila was a good natured person
Sivia continued, ‘He was a human gem. People of Punjab loved him very much. Most people knew him as a singer, but few knew that he was a great human being.’
‘He came home in 1986. He saw that my mother was sick. Then he gave me 10,000 rupees for my mother’s treatment, which was a really big amount.’
Famous folk singer Amarsingh Chamkila became popular with his different songs. He has also been in controversies many times due to his songs. On March 8, 1988, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were shot dead. Two other members of his band were also killed along with him.
The film was released on 12 April on Netflix
