PUNE: A 55-year-old man and his wife died while their six family members, including four children, suffered injuries after a Mumbai-bound container truck turned on its side and fell on their car at Khandala Ghatabout 85km from the city, on Pune-Mumbai highway late Monday, reported.
The family was returning to Talegaon Dabhade from Alibag in Raigad district, Lonavla city police said on Tuesday, adding that the container driver fled the spot after the accident.
Cops identified the deceased as Dattatreya Chaudhari, 55 and wife Kavita, 46, both from Jalgaon.
Dattatreya and his family had gone to a relative’s house in Talegaon Dabhade.”The injured were first taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Pune. The driver of the container truck has been booked on the charge of causing death by negligence. We have traced the owner of the vehicle and summoned him to the police station,” Lonavla Police assistant inspector Rahul Lad said.
