BHOPAL: A Dalit couple was paraded with garlands of shoestied to a pillar and thrashed by members of an influential family in a village of MP’s Ashoknagar district on Friday. Police rescued the couple but none of the accused has yet been arrested.
Karan Singh (46) and wife Betibai (40) returned to Kilora in Mungaoli region after three months on Friday.They had been away fearing harassment by a strongman in the village. The dispute started after the couple’s son was accused of molesting a woman from the influential family. The couple had repeatedly requested police protection but got no assistance. tnn
