A strange smell was coming from the fridge, suddenly there was a burning sensation in the eyes and throat, then something like this happened...

Canberra. An Australian family has claimed their fridge is making them so sick that they have never experienced such symptoms in their lives. According to Australian news outlet 9news, Adele and Alex Ray experienced irritation in their nose, eyes and throat due to a strange smell, which they said was coming from their Samsung fridge on May 19.

As Miss Ray took groceries out of the fridge, she felt tingling in her lips and numbness of her tongue. She later collapsed in the shower and needed paramedic treatment. The woman described the symptoms as something she had never experienced before in her entire life. Her breathing was fast and her muscles were weak, the report said.

The fridge in question is a 2019 model Samsung SR520BLSTC, which has no mention in the government’s product recall database. A technician called by the couple said the fridge had multiple problems, including leaking of refrigerant and lubricating oil.

The couple said they contacted the company, which offered to refund $974 for the fridge but also asked them to sign a legal document promising not to tell anyone about the incident. Calling it bullying, they rejected the company’s offer and filed a complaint against Samsung with the consumer authority.

‘We were denied access to the fridge’
Samsung has issued a statement regarding the incident in which it has said that they have taken the complaint very seriously, but could not investigate the matter as they were not given access to the refrigerator. A Samsung spokesperson said, “Samsung Electronics Australia complies with all applicable consumer laws and regulations and takes Ray’s allegations extremely seriously and has made several attempts to investigate the matter with them.” The company further said, “However, despite the offer of a full refund, the couple has failed to provide us access to the refrigerator for investigation or provide evidence in relation to the allegations made.”
