Wisconsin. Ohio police shot dead a man carrying a knife near the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Tuesday. US presidential candidate Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. Officials said that this incident happened just a few days after that. In a separate incident on Monday, a man wearing a ski mask and carrying an ‘AK-47’ was arrested near the RNC by Capitol Police officers and Homeland Security Investigations.
Ohio police teams in Wisconsin for the convention recovered two knives from a man shot and killed just blocks from the RNC. Five members of the Columbus, Ohio Police Department shot the man, who was holding knives in both hands, after he refused to comply with police commands and attacked an unarmed man before police opened fire, Milwaukee Chief Jeffrey Norman said at a news conference.
According to the New York Post report, the suspect killed was a homeless man who was mentally disturbed. Witnesses at the scene heard eight gunshots and some said the man was shot in the back as he tried to flee from security forces.
The shooting further fueled the anger of residents, who questioned why out-of-state officers were in their neighborhood, located about a mile from the convention site. It is worth noting that thousands of police officers from various states are currently deployed in Milwaukee, providing security for the Republican National Convention.
