Darlings Movie Review: Alia Bhatt's dark comedy performance is a diamond that shines even in the dark... - darlings movie review in hindi alia bhatt shefali shah film vijay varma shine in this netflix dark comedy noddv

Alia Bhatt Alia Bhatt has received a lot of praise this year for her brilliant performance in ‘Gangubaai’. Alia, who has been seen only as an actress till now, has also become a producer for the first time through her film ‘Darlings’. Perhaps this is the reason why both Alia and her fans have high expectations from this film made under the banner of her production house Eternal Sunshine. This film starring Alia, Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma has been released on Netflix today. Alia Bhatt has chosen a subject like domestic violence as the first film of her production house, but even in this environment, its treatment can be said to be different from any story till date. Know how this film is.

This is the story of Badrunisa (Alia Bhatt), who falls in love with Hamza (Vijay Verma) and then they get married. The twist in this love story comes when Hamza’s other side comes out after drinking alcohol and he beats his wife like an animal. Badrunisa lives in a chawl in Mumbai and her mother (Shefali Shah) also lives in the same chawl, who advises her daughter to get out of this marriage every day. But like many women, Badrunisa tolerates this beating in the hope that ‘one day everything will be fine’. But then something happens that her patience breaks and there is a twist in the story. Now to see how interesting this twist is, you can watch this film on Netflix.

First of all, if we talk about the story, then this story is on a very sensitive issue like domestic violence, but this story actually shows the truth which has been missing in many stories till now. Often films showing domestic violence show the story of a man who beats his wife every night or even during the day, humiliates her and the wife tolerates all this for years due to fear of society. Often after such stories, the shackles on the feet of the woman are society and public shame. But ‘Darlings’ tells the truth, which is actually very close to the truth. Badrunisa is accompanied by her mother, who every day tells her to get out of this relationship. There is the police, which makes her realize that he is beating her because she is getting beaten. In fact, in such relationships, women often wait for that day, ‘when everything will be fine’. And often the man who used to beat her at night, as soon as the intoxication wears off, showers love and pampers her. Often the wounds of the night are healed during the day and the woman then bears new wounds at night for years in the hope of that day, ‘when everything will be fine…’ ‘Darlings’ is very special in this sense.

Director Jasmeet K. Reen has brought this emotion to the screen very well. Although the performances shine in this dark comedy, the comedy does not hold much grip. In fact, if there is someone who brings something new to the heavy scenes of the story, it is Shefali Shah. Alia and Shefali bring a great chemistry together on screen. The way Vijay Verma has played the role of a husband is commendable. His grey shade can be clearly seen on the screen.

In this 2 hour 14 minute long film, the sequences do not change much in the beginning, but there are some interesting twists in the last part. Although it cannot be called a masterpiece, Darlings is a film that tells a funny story in the right way. I give this film 3.5 stars.
