Detail Review ‘The Gray Man’: Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe hold Russo Brothers i.e. Anthony Russo and Joe Russo in high esteem. The reason is clear – both the brothers have directed blockbuster films of Captain America and Avengers series. The last film of Avengers series, End Game, broke more than half of the box office records and hearts of viewers when they showed some important Avengers dying in the war with Thanos.

The Russo Brothers are known for their larger than life cinema style. Their visual sense, that is, their amazing ability to bring any script to the cinema screen in the grandest form, has made their style considered the best. The Russo Brothers are now taking forward the style of James Cameron of Avatar or George Lucas and Steven Spielberg of Star Wars. Their recent film “The Gray Man”, which was released on Netflix on July 22, is such a great action film in which even with a minimal story, the action on screen has been decorated in such a way that while watching the film, it seems that no other film could have been made better than this on this story. If there is anything after action in the film, it is some more action. The craftsmanship of the Russo Brothers is worth watching.

The story of The Gray Man is very simple. Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling), an agent of Sierra, a secret division of the American intelligence agency CIA, is asked to capture a man in Bangkok and loot all his belongings. There is a fierce fight between the two and it is revealed that the man whom Sierra Six kills is also a Sierra agent. Before dying, that agent gives Sierra Six a pen drive which contains a lot of secret information. This entire operation is being carried out at the behest of a corrupt CIA officer Danny Carmichael (Reje Jean Page).

Sierra Six goes missing with the pen drive. To catch him, Danny sends a hired assassin Lloyd Hanson (Chris Evans) after Sierra Six. Various battles take place in different countries where sometimes Hanson and sometimes Sierra Six have the upper hand. Hanson takes advantage of the situation and kidnaps and holds hostage Claire (Julia Butters), the niece of Sierra Group founder and Sierra Six’s father figure Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton). Sierra Six reaches him and then Danny’s partner shoots him. Sierra rescues Claire and everything becomes fine.

The story of the film is actually based on Mark Greaney’s novel The Gray Man. Greaney has written about a dozen novels in The Gray Man series so far. Efforts to make a film on The Gray Man were going on for a long time. In 2011, there was a plan to make this film with Brad Pitt and then once again with Charlize Theron. If it was made with Charlize, then its name would have to be something else because Charlize is an actress. This is Netflix’s most expensive film till date. To make it, Netflix had to spend 200 million dollars i.e. 1 billion 57 crores rupees.

In the first 3 days of its release on Netflix, this film was watched by 4.5 crore people. The promotion of this film was also very strong and the number of people watching it in India was more because Tamil film hero Dhanush also had an important role in this film. In the week of its release, it was the most watched film in 84 countries around the world. Inspired by its success, Netflix has decided to make a sequel to this film. Work on the script of its next part has already started.

Chris Evans was initially offered the role of Sierra Six in the film, but he preferred to play the villain Hanson. At many places, both Ryan and Chris preferred to speak their own dialogues instead of the written dialogues, which added a bit of fun. The film is a great action film and the credit for its success must go to its stunt team because not only is there continuous action in the film, but the stunts in the film are also amazing and you won’t feel like taking your eyes off the screen. The Russo brothers had kept the same thing in mind in Avengers as well, so despite having a very short and simple story, the Avengers films satisfied the minds of the viewers. The stunts of The Gray Man are amazing. From the entry of Sierra Six to the climax fight, the continuous action did not allow this film to stop and did not give the audience time to think even for a moment.

Tamil star Dhanush’s role in the film is small but the way his co-actors have praised his acting, his stunts, his personality and his professionalism during and after the shooting, it is clear that Hollywood has liked Dhanush’s style. It is expected that he will have an important role in the upcoming sequels as well. Dhanush has played the role of a hired killer who works for Hansen.

In the first fight he takes away the pen drive from Ryan and in the second fight he defeats Hanson’s partner, Miranda of the CIA, who has become Ryan’s ally, but here he gives the pen drive to Miranda before disappearing again because he does not like Hanson’s style of kidnapping children and bloodshed without thinking. You suddenly become a fan of Dhanush after watching the excellent action in this small scene. Why Chris Evans played the role of Hanson is known only to him, but he has looked amazing in the role of a mentally ill killer. Chris always becomes Captain America, so it was fun to see him in a negative role.

In The Gray Man, the audience does not have time to breathe. The action goes on continuously and it would be wrong not to watch such a magnificently filmed action. Just when you think that the action is probably over now, then begins a shootout and a scene of action that is even more intense than the previous scene. Watch the film. It is a great example of how an action film is made.
