A woman of Indian origin has been caught in the clutches of law in America. The woman pleaded guilty to fraud in the medical profession.The woman can be sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in prison.
New Delhi. The troubles of an Indian-origin woman living in Chicago, America are going to increase in the coming days. She can be sentenced to at least 10 years of imprisonment. The 51-year-old woman, a physician by profession, is accused of committing such a crime with her patients, due to which the financial burden on her and the government kept increasing. An Indian American doctor named Mona Ghosh has defrauded the federal health service by sending bills for non-existent services to Medicaid and private insurance companies. The woman has accepted her guilt.
The investigating agency says Mona Ghosh is the owner and operator of Progressive Women’s Healthcare, which specializes in obstetrics and gynecology services. She has pleaded guilty to two counts of health care fraud. She could be sentenced to ten years in prison on each count. US District Judge Franklin U Valderrama has set October 22 as the date for sentencing.
Federal prosecutors allege that Ghosh is liable for at least $2.4 million in fraudulently obtained reimbursement. He admitted in his plea that he is liable for more than $1.5 million in fraudulently obtained reimbursement. The final amount will be determined by the court at sentencing, the press release said.
It was claimed that between 2018 and 2022, Ghosh submitted fraudulent claims to Medicaid, Tricare and several other insurance companies for procedures and services that were not provided or were not medically necessary. Many of these services were used without the consent of the patient. The prosecution says that Mona Ghosh also fraudulently inflated the duration of in-office and telemedicine visits. The purpose of doing this was to increase billing.
