HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Isolated showers and storms are possible again Sunday, but more widespread rain is expected next week as a front stalls across the region.
By Sunday morning, the highest moisture will sit offshore with the front. That means storms will first develop over the Gulf of Mexico in the morning, then push inland as the day progresses. Again, your chance of rain in Houston is only 30% with other odds near the coast. Temperatures will stay in a similar range when compared to Saturday.
For both days this weekend, most coastal storms will hit early in the day, so if you have weekend plans at the beach, you’ll likely be able to get in plenty of fun during the late morning and afternoon hours.
Does next week’s weather still look stormy?
Absolutely. The tropical moisture and the weak front will push back inland Sunday night as an upper-level low drops down toward Texas. This upper-air storm will stall out for several days next week, generating multiple rounds of thunderstorms with the tropical moisture overhead.
Will these storms bring any severe weather or flooding?
Severe weather looks unlikely at this time, but street flooding is certainly on the table, especially Tuesday through Thursday. Heavy rain in any storm could lead to localized street flooding for a brief time. Lightning could also briefly knock out the power in neighborhoods where it has been restored.
What are you tracking in the tropics?
Right now, we’re tracking plumes of Saharan dust, so no tropical development is expected over the next seven days. In fact, one of those plumes could reach us late next week to bring rain chances back down, even if only for a day or so.
