New Delhi. India is rapidly expanding its Project-75. Under this, the ‘Indian Navy’ is going to take six advanced submarines and test their equipment at the end of the month. In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Ricardo Dominguez Garcia-Baquero, Chairman of Spanish shipyard Navantia, said, ‘Both the Spanish government and the Spanish Navy are very keen to move the P-75 (I) project forward. We are ready to help India in every possible way for this.’
Garcia-Baquero said in an email response, “This includes immediate export approval of the submarine, signing a comprehensive agreement with the Indian government, etc. Recently, the Airbus deal with Tata (for the supply of C-295 transport aircraft).” He further said, “We and our partner L&T are fully prepared for these tests. We are eager to demonstrate our world-class AIP technology to the Indian Navy.”
This submarine is quite advanced
India is planning to acquire six advanced conventional submarines with AIP systems. This will enable the Indian Navy to stay underwater for longer than before, helping it to ambush enemies. The design of the S80 submarine is such that it can easily meet almost all the technological requirements of the P75(I) without the need for any redesign.
A German company also has a line
Along with L&T and Navantia, German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Mazagon Dockyards Ltd are also in the race for the over Rs 60,000 crore project. Navantia has offered its S80 submarine design for the Indian Navy project, the submarine has already been commissioned to the Spanish Navy in 2023.
Electricity will be generated on its own
“For example, the AIP of the S80 is designed to generate over 300 kW of power and can therefore be directly used for the P75(I) without any redesign or scaling up. This will substantially reduce the major risks for the Indian Navy with regard to the P75(I) project,” the Spanish firm said.
Ethanol is equipped with stealth technology
Baquero further said that the S80 offered to the Indian Navy has the most contemporary features and includes the latest technologies such as the third-generation BEST AIP (bio-ethanol stealth technology) and advanced sensor suite. L&T and Navantia have tied up with a partner to provide a proven lithium-ion battery technology for the project. It is also fully committed to achieving the set indigenous target, which is in line with India’s strategic goal of progressively achieving self-reliance in the submarine sector.

“Navantia believes that the industrial partnership with L&T will not only meet industrial needs and IN requirements, but it will also open up exploration opportunities beyond submarines,” Baquero said.
