New Delhi. A new feature has been added to the Google Chrome browser that disables third-party cookies. These cookies are actually small files that are stored on your device. They collect analytical data, personalize online ads and also monitor browsing. Initially, this feature of the Google Chrome browser will be available to 1 percent of global users, i.e. about 30 million people.
Google has described this change as a test phase. At the same time, there is a plan for a full rollout to remove cookies by the end of the year. However, some advertisers say that they will suffer losses as a result. Google Chrome is the world’s most popular internet browser. Its rival browsers such as Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox already have the option to block third-party cookies. However, their internet traffic is very low.
Google has said that randomly selected users will be asked if they want to browse with more privacy. Google Vice President Anthony Chavez has said in a blog post that we are taking a responsible approach to phasing out third party cookies from Chrome.
Temporary option will be available
Google said that if a site does not work without third-party cookies and Chrome notices that you are having problems, then we will give you the option to temporarily re-enable third-party cookies for that website. Google says that it is working to make the Internet more private. But from the point of view of many websites, cookies are an important part of selling advertising on which they depend.
Cookies can be used to record various kinds of data about users, such as:
- What do you do on the site?
- Where are you in the world?
- Which device are you using?
- Where do you go online later?
