New Delhi: Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has been selected as a jury for the short film competition at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024. He described short films as a profound art form. The IFFM 2024 short film competition has some of the most talented artists. IFFM 2024 will be held from 15 to 25 August. It will showcase the best films of Indian cinema from last year.
Shoojit Sarkar had earlier won the Best Director award at IFFM 2022 for his film ‘Sardar Udham’. Talking about this, Shoojit said, ‘I am very happy to be selected as a jury for the short film competition at IFFM 2024. Short film is a profound art form, which is equipped with unique and new storytelling techniques. It usually launches the careers of young and new filmmakers. They provide a great platform for rising stars.’
Won 5 National Awards for ‘Sardar Udham’
The director further said, ‘I have always admired uniqueness, creativity and bold perspective and short films bring it to the fore. It shows the essence of our time and the current form of society. I am looking forward to seeing some new films.’ Talking about Shoojit’s films, he has given many great films like ‘Piku’, ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘October’, ‘Madras Cafe’ and ‘Sardar Udham’ in the industry. His films are well liked by critics, as well as his films do tremendous collection at the box office. Shoojit won 5 National Awards in 2023 for the film ‘Sardar Udham’.
He became famous with ‘Vicky Donor’
Shoojit Sircar made his directorial debut with the romantic war drama ‘Yahan’, which was released in 2005. He shone in Hindi cinema with the successful romantic comedy ‘Vicky Donor’, which was released in 2012. He received the National Film Award for this film. He then caught the attention of the audience with the film ‘Madras Cafe’ which was released in 2013.
