Washington. At least four people were killed and nine others injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Birmingham, Alabama, late Saturday night, while three people, including a young child, were killed in a shooting outside a home in the city, officials in Alabama said.
Birmingham Police Department officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a video posted on social media that officers immediately responded to reports of several people shot outside a nightclub at 11 pm. Birmingham Fire Brigade and Rescue personnel pronounced a man dead on the sidewalk near the nightclub. Fitzgerald said two women inside the club also died in the firing.
He said another person was pronounced dead at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital, where at least nine other victims were being treated for gunshot wounds. Fitzgerald said the victims were brought in by emergency medical staff or rushed to the hospital on their own after the incident.
Investigators believe at least one suspect fired shots into the nightclub from the street, Fitzgerald said. Federal law enforcement officials are assisting Birmingham police in the investigation. Similarly, police responded to a report of a vehicle crash in Birmingham about 5:20 p.m. Fitzgerald said police found a car that appeared to have been shot at from the front of a home.
