Washington. US President Joe Biden addressed the country after the deadly attack on former President Donald Trump. He addressed the countrymen for about five minutes from the Oval Office of the White House. He said that the time has come to carry forward the campaign for the 2024 US presidential election with full vigor and he is going to travel across the country for this, although he also mentioned the attack on Trump in his short address. On the assassination attempt on Trump, he said that in America, we cannot go … we cannot go on the path of political violence at all and we should not go either.
In a prime-time national address from the Oval Office, Biden said, “I want to talk to you tonight about the need to lower the political temperature in the country. I want to remind you, even though we disagree, we cannot be enemies. We are neighbors, friends, colleagues, citizens, and most importantly, we are fellow Americans.”
Investigation is currently ongoing
Biden said in his address that the shooter’s motive is not yet known. We have not been able to find out what his opinion was or who he was related to. We do not know whether he received help or support or whether he talked or contacted anyone else. Investigating officers are investigating this matter.
Violence is not the answer to violence
He further said that a former president was shot and an American citizen was killed only because he exercised his freedom to support his chosen candidate. We cannot do this… We should not go down this path in America. We have seen such incidents in history. Violence can never be the answer to violence. There is no place for such violence in America, for any kind of violence… Enough! No exceptions… We cannot defend this violence.
Peaceful debate is necessary
Biden further said in his address, ‘Political rhetoric in this country has become very heated. Now it is time to cool it down. It is the responsibility of all of us. Politics can never be a battlefield, God forbid, but it should not become a killing field. I believe that politics should be an area for peaceful debate, justice and decision-making according to our Constitution.
Do not promote violence
Biden further said that he has no doubt that the opposition party will “criticize my record” at the Republican National Convention event. They will present a different viewpoint for the sake of the country. He appealed to the citizens of the country not to promote political violence in the country and not to support those who advocate it.
