Moscow. Russia is looking forward to the ‘very important visit’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow and considers this visit to be of utmost importance for the relations between Russia and India. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman of the Kremlin, the official residence and office of the Russian President, said this on Saturday. Peskov also claimed that Western countries are watching this visit with ‘envy’.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Modi will attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit and will be in Moscow on July 8 and 9. The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday gave information about this high-level visit in New Delhi and said that the two leaders will comprehensively review the multifaceted relations between the two countries and discuss contemporary regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Peskov said in an interview with Russian state television ‘VGTRK’ that apart from other programs, the two leaders will also have informal talks in Moscow. He said, “Obviously, even if it is not called very busy, the agenda will be extensive. This will be an official visit and we hope that the two leaders will be able to talk informally as well.” Peskov said that relations between Russia and India are at the level of strategic partnership.
“We are expecting a very important visit which is of great significance for Russia-India relations,” Peskov was quoted as saying by state news agency TASS. Peskov also stressed that Western countries are “closely and jealously” watching Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to Russia. In response to a question about the attitude of Western politicians towards PM Modi’s visit to Russia, Peskov said, “They are jealous, which means they are closely monitoring it. Their close monitoring means they attach great importance to it.”
