New Delhi. Former Indian shooter Samaresh Jung, who has won a total of 14 medals including 7 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games, is currently in trouble. Within a few hours of returning from Paris Olympics 2024, he came to know that he will have to vacate his ancestral house. This house of Samaresh is being described as ‘illegal construction’. He has been living in this house with his family for about 75 years. He has only 48 hours to vacate the house. Samaresh has won a total of 14 medals including 7 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games, which includes 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Samaresh Jung, popularly known as ‘Goldfinger’, said he needed at least two months to pack up and leave. “This was a property we had been living on for the past 75 years. In 1978, the land and structure were leased to Mr Singh and since then we have been paying him rent. The L&DO (land and development office) sent us the notice just yesterday. In fact, I came to know about it just an hour after I reached home from Paris,” a distraught Jung told PTI.

Pistol shooters have won two of India’s three medals at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, with Manu Bhaker winning a bronze medal in the individual 10m air pistol and then in the mixed team category with Sarabjot Singh. Jung’s house is in the Civil Lines area and he said that 200 families have been ordered to vacate the house within two days. The Delhi High Court will hear the case on Monday.
‘I am not above the law’
Jung said, ‘I am not above the law and if the law says so, I will vacate the house. But giving a two-day notice is not the way. At least give us a few months to vacate the house. Is it an emergency or a war situation that we have to vacate the house in one day? Now I have no place to go. I have a big library of more than 1000 books and my brother has gone to look for a house and we are trying to pack everything.’ The 54-year-old former shooter said that he does not have another house in Delhi.
