Such a big game in giving government jobs... Supreme Court asked tough questions to the railways, said- this is a shocking matter

New Delhi. While the case of Pooja Khedkar, who got the IAS job through fake documents, was still going on, a new case came up in the Supreme Court. The railways gave jobs to many people without checking the documents. They did not even check whether the documents and certificates they had were correct or not. The Supreme Court has asked tough questions to the railways regarding this.

Expressing surprise over this, a bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Sanjay Karol asked how can someone be appointed to a government job without proper investigation and verification of the certificate. Such cases should be investigated. This person had got the job on compassionate grounds. The apex court said that he was dismissed because his appointment was given on the basis of forged and fake documents.

In its judgment, the bench said, ‘Looking at the facts of this case, we are quite surprised at the railways. If they had done the investigation earlier, which later found the documents to be fake, fabricated and forged, then perhaps this appointment would not have happened. How can someone be appointed to a government job without proper investigation and verification of documents? Railways is considered one of the largest employers in the country and such incidents should be stopped.

The court was hearing the Centre’s appeal challenging the August 2012 decision of the Calcutta High Court. The Supreme Court said that the Railways had issued show cause notices to these employees asking why their appointment should not be terminated on compassionate grounds, as they had taken appointment using forged and fabricated documents regarding their father’s job. Action was taken after receiving the reply. Because their appointments were made on the basis of forged, fabricated and fake documents.

The bench said, appointment on compassionate grounds is given to those persons whose families are greatly distressed or destitute due to the incapacity or demise of the main breadwinner. Therefore, when persons seeking appointment on such grounds try to misrepresent their eligibility, as has been done in this case, such posts cannot be allowed to be retained.
