Revanth to tap into PM Gati Shakti funds to develop Telangana
Hyderabad:The state government is trying to secure funding through the Prime Minister's Gati Shakti scheme, which offers 50-year interest-free loans. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy wants to build 19 major infrastructure projects across the state in the next four years using these funds.
Official sources revealed that these would include the elevated corridors, Regional Ring Road, Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, the establishment of satellite towns around the city and airports at districts.
The state is facing significant challenges in fund mobilisation to meet its strict project timelines and plans to leverage Central funds to overcome them.
Sources noted that Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to submit proposals to the DPIIT, aligning Telangana's infrastructure priorities with the national scheme. The DPIIT’s logistics division, responsible for overseeing the PM Gati Shakti, has set up a special screening committee to evaluate submissions from states, with recommendations made to the ministry of finance for fund allocation.
To maintain accountability, the Chief Minister has committed to personally monitor the progress, with monthly review meetings planned to keep the projects on track. Additionally, the planning department has been directed to create an online portal, where updates on each project’s progress will be posted daily, sources added.
