Advani’s political journey

Advani’s Rath Yatra, command was given to Modi

Advani had taken out Rath Yatra from Somnath to Samastipur in Bihar in 1987. He had handed over the responsibility of this journey to Modi.
At the age of 63, Lal Krishna Advani took out a Rath Yatra from Somnath in Gujarat to Ayodhya for the Ram Mandir movement. The yatra, which started on September 25, 1990, was commanded by late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan along with current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It was the miracle of Advani’s Rath Yatra that BJP, which had won two seats in 1984, got 120 seats in 1991. Not only this, Advani gained recognition as a Hindu leader in the entire country. With this, BJP got a new identity in states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar.
However Advani could not complete the Rath Yatra. He was arrested on 23 October 1990 in Samastipur, Bihar.
Advani remains the face of radical Hindutva.
1. Bring temple issue before Mandal Advani became the face of BJP in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. In the 80s, Vishwa Hindu Parishad started the ‘Ram Mandir’ construction movement. The 1991 elections were the turning point of the country’s politics. BJP brought the temple issue as a counter to the Mandal Commission and emerged as the main opposition party of the country riding on the Ram chariot.
2. Took half a dozen trips Advani did ‘Rath Yatra’ from Somnath to Ayodhya in 1990. His political career includes Ram Rath Yatra, Janadesh Yatra, Golden Jubilee Rath Yatra, Bharat Uday Yatra, Bharat Suraksha Yatra, Janchetna Yatra.

Modi always stayed with Advani during the Rath Yatra. Photo of a railway station where Advani is addressing workers.
3. Prepared an army of young leaders Lal Krishna Advani contributed the most in the journey of converting Jan Sangh into BJP. Advani has prepared more than 90% of the leaders of the current generation of BJP.
4. When everyone was surprised Advani surprised everyone in 1995 by naming Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a contender for the post of PM. Advani always remained Vajpayee’s number two.
5. Resigned when accused Advani’s political life of more than 50 years remained spotless. In 1996, the names of big opposition leaders including Advani came up in the Hawala scandal. Then Advani resigned and said that he would contest elections only after coming out clean in this. In 1996 he was proven innocent.
