In Chandigarh, so far 1992 applications have been submitted for free admission on 816 seats reserved for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) in 56 private schools of the city. Chandigarh Education Department had started the application process from 16th December, which ended on 13th December.

This is the second year that the department has adopted online process for EWS and DG category. Last year, during admission, many documents were found incorrect, due to which the admission of many applicants was cancelled. Many fake documents were also revealed during door-to-door investigation. This time the department has made the process more stringent.
Awareness increased among parents
Apart from submitting applications to schools, parents are reaching out in large numbers to collect documents and information related to the process. They are inquiring about the age of the child, documents required for the application and eligibility.
Less applications than last year
The number of applications received so far this year is less than last year. Only 15 days are left for admission and the department estimates that the number of applications may increase soon.
