World chess champion D Gukesh has returned to India. He got a warm welcome at Chennai airport on Monday. 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh won the World Chess Championship title on December 12 in Singapore.
He defeated defending champion Ding Liren of China 7.5–6.5 in the final. Gukesh is the first player in the world to win the title at such a young age. Earlier in 1985, Russia’s Garry Kasparov had won this title at the age of 22.
Gukesh won the title by defeating the Chinese player in the 14th game. The championship finals started on 25 November, 13 games were played between the two till 11 December. The score here was tied at 6.5-6.5. Gukesh won the 14th game today and took the lead by one point and made the score 7.5-6.5.

Second Indian player after Vishwanathan Anand Gukesh became the second player from India to become the world champion of chess. Vishwanathan Anand became chess champion in 2012. Gukesh also won the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament at the age of 17. Then he also became the youngest player to win this title.
Tears came out of Gukesh’s eyes as soon as he became chess champion. He started crying bitterly.
Gukesh got Rs 11.45 crore This was the first time in the 138-year history of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) that two players from Asia were facing each other for the title of World Champion. The player got Rs 1.69 crore for one win in the classical game. That means, on winning 3 games, Gukesh got Rs 5.07 crore and on winning 2 games, Liren got Rs 3.38 crore directly. The remaining prize money was divided equally between both the players, that is, Gukesh got a prize of Rs 11.45 crore and Liren got a prize of Rs 9.75 crore.

Who is D Gukesh? Gukesh D’s full name is Dommaraju Gukesh. He is a resident of Chennai. Gukesh was born on 7 May 2006 in Chennai. He started playing chess at the age of 7. He was initially coached by Bhaskar Nagaiah.
Nagaiah has been an international chess player and is a home chess tutor in Chennai. After this, Vishwanathan Anand gave coaching to Gukesh along with giving him information about the game. Gukesh’s father is a doctor and mother is a microbiologist by profession.
Gukesh also won Chess Olympiad
Chess Olympiad was organized in Budapest from 10 to 23 September this year. India became champion in both open and women’s categories. In the open category, it was Gukesh who led India to victory by winning the final game. Read the full news…
