Dr. Sandeep Ghosh was detained by CBI on August 16, 2024.
Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, got bail on Friday in the Kolkata rape-murder case. In the evidence tampering case, CBI could not file the charge sheet even after the stipulated period of 90 days. For this reason, Sealdah Court has granted bail to Ghosh.
The court has also approved the bail of former Tala police station incharge Abhijeet Mandal on the same basis. Mandal is accused of delay in registering the FIR of the case.
Sandeep Ghosh will not be able to come out of jail yet. He has not been granted bail in the financial fraud case in the medical college. On November 29, the court had rejected the CBI charge sheet in the financial fraud case. CBI did not have the necessary approval from the state government to file a charge sheet against the government employee.

Ghosh gave renovation order the day after the rape-murder CBI investigation has revealed that the very next day (August 10, 2024) of the rape-murder of the trainee doctor, Sandeep Ghosh had ordered the renovation of the rooms adjacent to the seminar hall. The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the medical college on the morning of 9 August.
The CBI found documents which confirm that Ghosh had written a letter on August 10 asking the State Public Works Department (PWD) to renovate the cameras and toilets attached to the seminar hall. Ghosh’s signature is also on this permission letter.
PWD staff had started renovation of the room adjacent to the seminar hall. However, college students started protesting regarding this, due to which the renovation work was stopped.
Investigating officers say that it is clear from the renovation letter that Ghosh was in a hurry to get this work done, hence this document can help in connecting the link between the rape-murder case and the case of financial irregularities in RG Kar College.

The very next day after the rape-murder of the trainee doctor, Sandeep Ghosh had ordered the renovation of the rooms adjacent to the seminar hall.
Former Deputy Superintendent had made allegations of financial fraud
hospital Former Deputy Superintendent Dr Akhtar Ali had filed a petition in the Kolkata High Court accusing Ghosh of financial fraud. Ali had demanded an ED investigation into corruption cases. In the petition, Ali had accused Ghosh of illegal sale of unclaimed dead bodies, smuggling of biomedical waste and taking commission for passing tenders for medicine and medical equipment supplies. The CBI had detained Ghosh on August 16. Following the order of the High Court, a case of financial irregularities was registered against Ghosh on August 24.
CBI’s revelations in financial case…
- Sandeep Ghosh introduced an interview system for appointment of medical house staff. However, there was no panel of interviewers at the hospital. Final marks of interview were released before appointment. Ghosh is also accused of not appointing many qualified trainee doctors.
- Ghosh was posted at Murshidabad Medical College between 2016 and 2018. He knew Biplav and Suman since then. Ghosh ran a corruption network along with his security guards, Biplav and Suman.
- After Ghosh became the principal of RG Kar Medical College, he called Biplab and Suman to Kolkata. He got many tenders for the hospital from both the vendors. Ghosh’s guard also used to enter into contracts with vendors to sell the biomedical waste of the hospital.
- Biplab Maa used to run many companies including Tara Traders, Baba Loknath, Tiyasha Enterprises. He used to apply for tenders in the hospital in the name of all these companies. So that there is competition in the market for tenders. In this only one company used to get the tender.
- CBI has also found many flaws in the way tenders were awarded to Biplab’s companies. CBI said that work order letters were written to many officials of the college, but these letters were never handed over to them. This means other officials were not included in the tender process.
- According to the agency, Ishaan Cafe, the company of Nargis, wife of Ghosh’s guard, got the contract for the canteen in the hospital. Sandeep Ghosh also returned the non-refundable caution money to the guard’s wife’s company.
The body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital. The body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor was found on the morning of August 9 in the seminar hall of the emergency building of RG Kar Hospital. She was on night duty. The doctor was bleeding from his private parts, eyes and mouth. His neck bone was also found broken.
A headphone was found near the doctor’s body. In this case, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer working in Kolkata Police, was arrested by the police on August 10. Sanjay was seen entering the emergency building in the CCTV camera. Then he had headphones around his neck. However, he did not have headphones around his neck while leaving the building.
Postmortem report reveals brutality against trainee doctor

The police had submitted the postmortem report to the trainee doctor’s family on August 12. The report revealed that after rape and assault, the accused had murdered the doctor by strangulating his mouth.
The four-page postmortem report stated that the accused had brutally exploited the doctor. A deep wound was found on the private parts of the trainee doctor. The accused continuously pressed the doctor’s nose, mouth and throat to suppress his voice. Thyroid cartilage was broken due to strangulation.
The doctor’s head was pressed against the wall, so that he could not scream. Injuries were found on the stomach, lips, fingers and left leg. Then they attacked him with so much force that his glasses broke. The glasses broke and entered his eyes. There was a lot of bleeding from both the eyes, mouth and private parts of the trainee doctor.
