Nehru Memorial was renamed as PM Museum on 15 June 2023.
A letter has been written by the PM Museum to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, in which he has been demanded to return the documents related to Nehru.
Prime Minister Museum and Library Society member Rizwan Qadri said on Monday that during the UPA tenure in 2008, Nehru’s personal letters packed in 51 boxes were delivered to Sonia Gandhi. Either all the letters should be returned, or they should be allowed to be scanned, because these documents were already part of the PM Museum.
Rizwan said- Even in September 2024, I had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi to return the letter, but after not getting any reply from her, I have now written a letter to Rahul. According to media reports, Rizwan had written a letter to Rahul Gandhi on December 10. However, this information has now come to light.
Among the 51 cartoons that Rizwan is talking about, Nehru’s letters are kept which he sent to Edwina Mountbatten, Albert Einstein, Jayaprakash Narayan, Padmaja Naidu, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Aruna Asaf Ali, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Govind Ballabh Pant. Were written.
There is also a demand for forensic audit of documents.
- Nehru’s letters were given to the PM Museum in 1971. Qadri had told in September that in 2008, Sonia, as the representative of the family, had recalled the letters. Items once donated are not returned, but were later withdrawn.
- Even then the museum was not told what Sonia’s intention was behind taking back these letters. Still don’t know. I’m sure this was done in good faith to protect these documents, but historians like me are curious to find these letters.
- We want this letter to be safe. We also want a forensic audit to be conducted to ensure that the documents have not been tampered with.
