There is a story from Ramayana. Ravana had abducted Goddess Sita. When Shri Ram and Lakshman met Hanuman, Hanuman made them friends with Sugriva. Shri Ram solved Sugriva’s problems by killing Bali and made Sugriva the king. After this Sugriva sent the entire monkey army in search of Sita.
All the monkeys had gone in search of Sita ji. Jatayu’s brother Sampati had told the monkeys on the seashore in the south that Goddess Sita was in Lanka. Hanuman, Angad and Jamwant were also in this group of monkey army.
The monkeys had got information about Sita that now the question was who can go to Lanka and search for Goddess Sita?
After much deliberation, it was decided that Hanuman would go to Lanka and return after finding Goddess Sita. Hanuman had done three special things before going to Lanka.
The first thing Hanuman did was to salute all his fellow monkeys. The second thing he did was to take advice from Jamwant. The third task, kept Lord Shri Ram in the heart i.e. meditated on God and flew towards Lanka.
It was not necessary for Hanuman to salute all the monkeys, but he showed humility by saluting everyone. After this he asked Jamwant what he should do after going to Lanka. Then Jamwant advised Hanuman that he should go to Lanka and return only after finding Goddess Sita, he should not fight there. You come back, then we all will do as Lord Shri Ram says. Hanuman ji listened and understood Jamwant’s words with full seriousness. After this he meditated on Shri Ram with full devotion and flew towards Lanka. Hanuman started the most difficult task of searching for Sita with humility, seriousness and devotion and he also got success.
