The government has appointed Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He will be the 26th Governor of RBI and will replace the current Governor Shaktikanta Das.
Shaktikanta Das was made the Governor on 12 December 2018. Shaktikanta Das’s tenure was later extended for three more years.
Malhotra is counted among PM Narendra Modi’s favorite officers.
In matters of finance, Malhotra is counted among the reformist and strong working officers. He has experience of working in almost all the departments of Rajasthan. Have worked in the Finance Ministry at the Centre. He is also originally from Rajasthan. Malhotra is counted among the favorite officers of PM Narendra Modi.
This thing is famous about Sanjay Malhotra- Before working on any issue, they do extensive research on it. Even while roaming or walking in the park, they keep searching, listening and watching something or the other from the internet. When a presentation is given in front of the CM, it is given quoting that research only. In such a situation, the deep impact of his words and thoughts is seen in every meeting.
Shaktikanta Das is a 1980 batch IAS officer.
Shaktikanta Das is a 1980 batch IAS officer. He is an officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. Till May 2017, he was the Secretary of Economic Affairs. He became the 25th Governor of the country. Even when demonetization took place in November 2016, Das was on the main front. Das has held various positions for the last 38 years. Das also served as a member of the 15th Finance Commission. Das has represented India in BRICS, International Monetary Fund and SAARC. He is a post graduate from Stephen College, Delhi.
Das had said in the last monetary policy review that we are in a very critical phase and we should ensure that we come out of it. The Reserve Bank estimates that the country’s economy will grow at the rate of 9.5% in the financial year 2022. Last year there was a decline of 7.3% in the country’s economy.
