Arvind Kejriwal played Jat card in Delhi elections, demands center to include community in OBC list - delhi vidhan sabha chunav 2025 arvind kejriwal jat card demands center to include community in obc list

Ahead of the assembly elections in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday accused the BJP-led central government of reneging on the promise of providing reservation to the Jat community of the capital. Kejriwal said in the press conference that he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to include the Jat community of Delhi in the Other Backward Class (OBC) list of the Central Government.

He also accused the Center of misleading the community and failing to fulfill promises for the last decade. Kejriwal said, “In 2015, BJP invited Jat leaders to the Prime Minister’s residence and assured them that the Jat community of Delhi would be included in the central OBC list. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also made the same promise in 2019. “However, nothing has been done to fulfill these promises.”

‘Jat community students do not get admission in DU’

He questioned why Jat students of Rajasthan get the benefit of reservation in Delhi University (DU), while Jat students of Delhi are deprived of it.”

“Thousands of children from the Jat community in Delhi are unable to take admission in DU as the community is not a part of the central OBC list,” he said.

Kejriwal also alleged that despite Delhi’s Jats being recognized under the OBC category in Delhi, the central government has refused to provide them benefits.

This is a ‘betrayal’ of the Jat community.

The AAP chief said, “This is betrayal. The Center should include the Jat community of Delhi in the OBC list to ensure that they get reservation in central government institutions, including jobs and college admissions.”

Kejriwal said that central agencies like Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Public Works Department (PWD) work extensively in Delhi and inclusion of Jats in the OBC list will provide important opportunities for them. Will be born. He promised to continue the fight until the community’s demands are met.

Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5. The results will be declared on February 8.
