Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz has reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open men’s singles. Alcaraz’s opponent, British No. 1 Jack Draper, retired with an injury in the fourth round.

Draper, the 15th seed, was trailing 7-5, 6-1 against four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena when his injury became more troublesome and he retired.

Earlier, Draper, 23, had to leave the court for medical treatment after the first set due to a hip injury.

Sabalenka beats Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 In women’s singles, world number one player Aryna Sabalenka continued her brilliant performance at Melbourne Park and made it to the quarter-finals on Sunday. He won in straight sets. The previous two-time champion Sabalenka defeated Russia’s Mira Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round.

Bopanna’s pair got a walkover Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Chinese partner Zhang Shuai entered the quarterfinals of mixed doubles after getting a walkover in their second round match on Sunday. Bopanna and Shuai were competing against America’s Taylor Townsend and Monaco’s Hugo Nieves, but the pair did not get to play.

History of Australian Open The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year. The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia started this tournament in 1905, which was previously called the Australian Championships. The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia later became Tennis Australia. After this the Australian Championship was renamed Australian Open. From 1969 this tennis tournament became officially known as the Australian Open.

It’s the first Grand Slam of the year There are 4 Grand Slams in tennis. All four are held annually, starting with the Australian Open in January. The French Open takes place in May and June. Wimbledon is held in July and US Open is held in August-September. The US Open is the last Grand Slam of the year.
