The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is undergoing a significant leadership change, with its founder and longtime president Lalu Prasad Yadav preparing to formally hand over the reins to his son and leader of opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav. During an important meeting of RJD’s national executive, both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav were given full powers over all major decisions related to the party, including its name and election symbol. This decision has strengthened Tejashwi Yadav’s position as Lalu Yadav’s successor and marked a historic change within the party.
This will be followed by elections for the state president and other organizational roles, and a state executive meeting has been scheduled on June 21 to discuss the selection of the new state president of Bihar.
The national executive meeting discussed key organizational and political strategies, with a focus on activating the party structure and preparing for the upcoming elections.
RJD leader Manoj Jha said, “The bugle has been sounded. The focus is not just on the change of power in Bihar, but on the change in deep concern.”
“The decision to hold organizational elections has been taken with the aim of increasing the participation of party workers and encouraging youth leadership within the RJD,” Jha said.
This is being considered as a step taken towards modernizing the party while maintaining the basic principles of the party. This change signals the end of the era when Lalu Prasad Yadav dominated the political narrative of RJD since its inception.
Under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, the party aims to strengthen its position and prepare for the upcoming election battle in Bihar and at the national level.
