People protesting demanding the release of captive Sikhs tried to march to Chandigarh on Tuesday. A program was organized in Mohali on the completion of 2 years of Qaumi Insaaf Morcha. Meanwhile, some protesters dodged the police and entered Chandigarh.

Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and other officers stopped the protesters in Sector-43. The police lathicharged them, fired tear gas shells and used water cannon. In this demonstration, three personnel including SHO Jaiveer Rana of Chandigarh Sector-11 police station have been injured.
The protesters were taken to the police station in 4 buses. After this the protesters announced their return. To prevent the protesters from marching again, the police have made 5 layer barricades on the Chandigarh-Mohali border. Tippers filled with stones have also been parked.
Front leader Baba Sher Singh said- ‘There will be a Mahapanchayat in Mohali on January 25, in which the issue of release of captive Sikhs will be raised. Big leaders from across the country will reach the Mahapanchayat.
On the other hand, the parents of Amritpal Singh, MP from Khadur Sahib seat, have been put under house arrest. Apart from them, Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa and former Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann have been placed under house arrest. All three were going to participate in the dharna of Quami Insaaf Morcha.

Tarsem Singh appealed to the people to reach the front in maximum numbers to support him and protect the rights of our jailed Sikhs.

Amritpal won the election by about 2 lakh votes
Amritpal had contested the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2024 as an independent candidate from Khadur Sahib seat of Punjab. He defeated Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira in this election by 1,97,210 votes. Amritpal Singh got 4,04,430 votes, while Kulbir Zira got 2,07,310 votes.
