The final publication of voter list for urban body and panchayat elections in Chhattisgarh will now take place on January 18. Earlier the date of January 15 was fixed but by amending it the State Election Commission has fixed the new date.

The Commission has said that by making changes in the earlier issued program for preparing the electoral roll with photos for conducting general elections 2024-25 of all the panchayats development block wise in the state, three-tier panchayat and urban bodies, the final publication of the electoral roll will be done on January 15. It has been extended to Saturday, January 18.

Preparation to conduct elections using EVM
Now preparations are on to conduct civic elections in the state through EVM instead of ballot paper. The government has written a letter to the State Election Commission to advise in the matter. Earlier, Deputy CM Arun Sao had talked about holding elections through ballot paper.
After the organization’s meeting, Deputy CM Arun Sao said that the Election Commission is trying to conduct elections through EVMs. The Commission is working in this direction. Every possible effort will be made to ensure that urban body voting is conducted through EVMs only.

Announcement of elections any time on January 18
In Chhattisgarh, voting dates can be announced any time after January 18 for the elections of urban bodies and three-tier panchayats. The Commission has started its preparations. Both the elections will be announced together, but voting will be conducted separately. Elections for three-tier Panchayats will be held through ballot paper only.
By deleting the provisions of EVM, amended provisions of voting through ballot paper were implemented. It has been told that the responsibility of conducting elections lies with the State Election Commission under Section 32 of Chhattisgarh Municipal Act 1961 and Section 14 of Chhattisgarh Municipal Act 1956. Changes in the rules are also possible only in consultation with the State Election Commission.
