Alleging a partnership between the ruling party and the main opposition, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal today said the upcoming elections in Delhi will probably reveal a “jugalbandi” between the BJP and the Congress. Earlier, in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations on AAP, Kejriwal had posted, “Rahul Gandhi has abused me, but I will not do anything on his comments. His fight is to save Congress, my fight To save the country.”
Senior BJP leader and party’s IT chief Amit Malviya sarcastically commented, “Worry about the country later, save the New Delhi seat first.” Kejriwal represents the New Delhi Assembly constituency in the Assembly.
In a sharp reaction, Kejriwal replied, “Very good. I wrote a line about Rahul Gandhi and there was a response from BJP. Look, how upset BJP is. This Delhi election may probably break the years-old partnership between Congress and BJP. Will expose.”
There is likely to be a triangular contest between the ruling AAP, the opposition BJP and the Congress in the elections to be held on February 5 in the national capital. AAP and Congress, who fought the general elections as allies months ago, are now at loggerheads with each other in the capital and are trading fierce criticism.
Yesterday, at a rally in Seelampur, Congress’s Rahul Gandhi targeted former Chief Minister Kejriwal. Rahul said, “Arvind Kejriwal had said that he would clean Delhi, remove corruption and turn the national capital into Paris. What happened? No one can move around due to pollution and inflation is rising.”
The opposition leader said, “Arvind Kejriwal had talked about removing corruption. Has he removed corruption? Pollution, corruption and inflation are increasing in Delhi.”
Gandhi also said that AAP is silent on the issue of caste census. He has also promised to conduct a survey if the Congress government is formed in the national capital.
AAP is trying hard to win for the third consecutive time in the national capital, while BJP is trying its best to turn the tables this time. The Congress, which ruled the national capital till 2013, has not won a single seat in the last two assembly elections.
