Farmers of Dhativna Tola Kishunpur and Vishambharpur have been struggling with this problem for the last 13 years. Where earlier there used to be abundant crops in the fields, now farming has become impossible due to waterlogging and dirt.

Farmers said that dirty water from the prison is draining into their land, which is ruining their crops. Some farmers try to grow crops, but their hard work goes in vain due to waterlogging and dirt. Farmers say that the jail administration has not made a drainage system, due to which this situation has arisen.
Situation worsened due to closure of canal
According to the farmers, the canal passing through their land was closed during the construction of the jail in 2010. After this, the dirty water started spreading into the fields from the drain built below the boundary wall of the jail. 50 bighas of land of about two dozen farmers has now become like a pond.

No action taken on complaints
The aggrieved farmers applied several times to the District Magistrate and other officials for resolution of their problems, but no concrete steps were taken. The farmers alleged that the jail administration not only ignores their problems but also behaves rudely when they protest.

officials’ assurance
Sadar SDM Dr. Pradeep Kumar said, “The matter is being investigated. The problem will be resolved soon after talks with the jail superintendent.” The farmers have demanded the administration to build a drainage system as soon as possible, provide compensation and make their land fertile. The hopes of the farmers who have been affected for a long time now rest on administrative action.
