Mohammed Shami is returning to Team India after 19 November 2023. He was injured. He underwent surgery in London in January-2024.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has returned in the T20 series against England. He will play international matches 14 months after the ODI World Cup final. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj have been given rest. BCCI released the team list on Saturday night. Akshar Patel was made the vice-captain of the team, Suryakumar Yadav will captain.
Rishabh Pant did not get a place, in his place Dhruv Jurel will be the backup wicketkeeper. Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy were also included in the team. The first match of the T-20 series will be played on 22 January. The 3 ODI series will start from 6th February. The team was not announced for the ODI series and Champions Trophy.

- Mohammed Shami is making a comeback after 14 months. He played his last match for India on 19 November 2023. If he proves his fitness in this series, his chances of being included in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy will increase.
- Shivam Dubey, Jitesh Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Avesh Khan did not get a place in the Indian team. Riyan Parag has also not got a chance. Whereas, Dhruv Jurel and Harshit Rana got the place.
- Four all-rounders were included in the form of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. That means the selectors have emphasized on the depth of the batting lineup in the Indian team. There are also options for pace and spin bowling.
- Ramandeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal and Vijay Kumar, who were part of the team that won the T-20 series from South Africa, have not got a chance.
Shami performed strongly in domestic cricket
Shami returned after injury from Bengal’s match against Madhya Pradesh in Round 1 of Ranji Trophy. He also played Syed Mushtaq Ali (T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (ODI), which increased the hopes of his return to the Indian team.
Had ankle surgery done in January last year Shami had undergone ankle surgery in England in January-2024. For the last several months, Shami was in the rehab camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
