After a wait of one and a half years, the Urban Development and Housing Department has prepared the draft of the state’s new EV Policy-2025. The policy can be issued by the end of this month. The new policy will be applicable for 5 years. Under the policy, there will be a cess on fuel for diesel-powered buses and trucks to promote EVs. Road tax will also increase on petrol and diesel cars costing more than Rs 25 lakh. Madhya Pradesh EV Promotion Board will also be formed. The board will have members from departments like urban administration, transport and finance etc. This will be the apex body of EV system in the state.
5 including Bhopal, Indore will be developed as model EV cities
- Subsidy of Rs 50 thousand on first 10 thousand cars
- Subsidy of Rs 10 lakh on first 100 EV buses
- Rs 5000 on the first 30 thousand e-cycles.
- Rs 10 thousand on first 1 lakh two wheelers.
- Tarang portal will be created for all the arrangements related to EV.
Pollution cess will be collected from diesel vehicles
- Pilot Project: The new policy will be implemented in the entire state. But in the next 5 years, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain will develop as model EV cities.
- Government Departments: In 5 years, all government departments, boards, corporations and all ambulances etc. will be converted into EVs.
- E-Rickshaw: To prevent traffic jams, e-rickshaws will be allowed to run only in some selected areas or on the outskirts of big cities.
- This is also special: 10 paise/litre on diesel vehicles. Pollution cess will be imposed. The draft of EV policy is ready on violation of rules in the zone made for EV. Suggestions will be taken in 7 days. The policy may be released at the end of this month. Parikshit Sanjayrao Jhade, Additional Commissioner, Urban Development and Housing, penalty will be imposed. Municipal bodies will issue green bonds for charging infrastructure.
- Where and how much subsidy: In Gujarat, there is subsidy of Rs 20 thousand on two wheeler EV and Rs 1.5 lakh on four wheeler. In Maharashtra, the subsidy on two wheeler is Rs 25 thousand and on four wheeler is Rs 2.5 lakh. Till now, exemption was available only in registration and road tax in Madhya Pradesh.
- Target: The target is to increase the share of EV in two-wheeler category to 40%, three-wheeler to 70%, cars to 15% and buses to 40% in 5 years. A dedicated urban transport fund will be created for the operation of the EV system.
