Mohali Police and Excise Department caught a Bolero pickup full of liquor at the checkpoint late night. 250 boxes of liquor sold in Chandigarh have been recovered from the Bolero. During this time two drug smugglers were traveling in the car.

The drug smugglers have been identified as Amandeep Singh and Joginder Singh alias Raju, residents of Baghapurana district Moga. A case has been registered against the accused at Kharar Sadar Police Station under sections of the Punjab Excise Act 1914. Police say that this action will continue in future also.

The Excise Department suspected that liquor smugglers become active during this season. Keeping this in mind, special checkpoints are being set up under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner (Excise), Mohali Ashok Malhotra. Meanwhile, on the night of 7 January, a blockade was set up at village Gharuan near the flyover naka on Ludhiana-Chandigarh road. During this time the pickup was stopped at the checkpoint. After this, liquor was recovered from the vehicle. When the people in the car were asked about this, they could not give any proper answer. Also could not show any documents. At the same time, the police has started investigating them.
Both liquor smugglers are in police custody.
There is a fine of two lakhs if caught with a bottle
Now if a person in Mohali or Punjab is caught carrying liquor from Chandigarh or a foreign state, then strict action is taken against him. He also has to go to jail. At the same time, if proven guilty, he faces a fine of Rs 2 lakh. Even if he is caught with a bottle of liquor. However, the rules when heavy liquor is caught are quite strict. This action is taken by the department under Section 61 of the Punjab Excise Act-1914.
