When the Bengal-Nagpur Railway was started for the first time in the country, in the year 1889, trains were run for the first time from Bilaspur Railway Station. This station has not only been an important center for coal transportation but has also given a permanent boost to the regional economy around it.

Redevelopment project work is going on at a cost of about Rs 392 crore to equip Bilaspur Railway Station with world class facilities under the Station Redevelopment Scheme.
Under the plan, Bilaspur Railway Station is being given an example of new design and modern architecture, expansion of platforms and increase in passenger amenities. Similarly, passenger-friendly facilities including high-speed Wi-Fi, comfortable seating arrangements, air-conditioned waiting rooms and state-of-the-art toilets, disabled-friendly special facilities will be provided.
There will also be shopping and food court
Environment friendly initiatives will include use of solar energy, emphasis on green environment and energy efficiency and security and digital solutions will include installation of CCTV cameras, automatic ticketing and modern passenger information system.
Along with this, this station is also being developed as a commercial and cultural centre. Which will include shopping and food courts at the station as well as areas showcasing local cultural heritage.
Sitting arrangement for 800 passengers in the waiting hall
In the redevelopment of Bilaspur Railway Station, mainly keeping in mind the long-term needs in the coming times, provision of a waiting area to seat about 800 passengers simultaneously is being made in the concourse.
Similarly, provision of approximately 28 thousand square meter parking area for more than 1150 vehicles will be made, separate entry and exit routes will be made in the station for better crowd management. Provision for 3 new feet wide overbridge has also been made here, in which there will be 2 stations for entry and one for exit from the station.
Being transformed into a green station
Bilaspur station is being transformed into a green station by equipping it with world class facilities. Where there will be facility of natural light and ventilation. After redevelopment, Bilaspur station will become an attractive center of technology, local culture and rich heritage with hi-tech passenger facilities.
