Under the Give Up campaign being run to voluntarily remove the names of ineligible families under the Food Security Scheme, about 6 thousand people in the district have so far voluntarily given up the benefits. District Logistics Officer-II Bhaguram Mahala said that due to increasing awareness among the general public, competent persons associated with the scheme are coming forward to remove their names. Understanding the importance of the campaign, ineligible families are submitting their application forms in the office.

Under this ‘Give Up Campaign’, beneficiaries included in the National Food Security list can voluntarily remove their names. He said that after January 31, 2025, a campaign will be launched against ineligible beneficiaries who do not voluntarily remove their names.

District Logistics Officer said that such capable beneficiaries included in the National Food Security list have been warned. Such ineligible families are being given a chance to voluntarily remove their names till January 31, 2025. After that the amount will be recovered and legal action will be taken against the ineligible people. The real objective of the National Food Security Scheme is to provide food security cover to poor and needy families. The National Food Security Act, 2013 was enacted to ensure access of poor families to food grains by providing quality food grains at fair and affordable prices.

The District Logistics Officer said that to get the names removed, the capable families are being again requested to submit the application along with the ration card and Aadhar card to the District Logistics Officer office through the nearest fair price shopkeeper. After January 31, ineligible persons will be identified and action will be taken as per rules, removal of names from the Food Security Scheme and other appropriate provisions (including recovery of wheat amount). At present, 13 lakh 5 thousand 431 members of 3 lakh 1 thousand 682 families in Bikaner district are included in this scheme.

Who is ineligible? According to the notification of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, income tax payers for rural and urban areas, government and semi-government employees and pensioners, those with annual income of more than one lakh, private four-wheeler owners, 1000 square feet in the municipal area, in the municipality area. Families owning permanent residential/commercial premises larger than 1500 square feet and more than 2000 square feet in rural areas and owning agricultural land more than the prescribed limit fall in the category of exclusion from the National Food Security Scheme. and are ineligible for this scheme.

How to remove name from the scheme

The head of an ineligible or capable family can voluntarily submit a simple application form for renouncing benefits under the National Food Security Scheme in which his name, address, ration card number and mobile number are mentioned and signed along with it, at the nearest fair price shop or subdivision officer’s office or district logistics office.
