Stock Market Holiday: Festivals like Makar Sankranti and Pongal will be celebrated in India tomorrow i.e. on 14th January. In such a situation, there is a question in the minds of traders and investors whether the stock markets will be open on this day? The answer is yes. According to the holiday calendar of 2025 released by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the Indian stock markets will be open for trading on January 14, 2025. Meanwhile, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), there will be a bank holiday tomorrow.

Why do stock markets remain open on Makar Sankranti?

Makar Sankranti is a public holiday in many states, but trending in the Indian stock market is normal on this day. Banks generally remain closed on many regional holidays also. But unlike this, the stock exchange has a separate trading schedule. On January 14, the markets will open at their usual time of 9.15 am and close at 3.30 pm, due to which trading in equities, derivatives, commodities, bonds and currencies will continue as normal.

BSE and NSE have released the list of holidays for 2025, which gives details of 14 non-trading days for the year. These holidays are in different months:

october Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra (2 October), Diwali Lakshmi Pujan (21 October), Diwali Balipratipada (22 October)
november Prakash Guruparva Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti (November 5)
December Christmas (25 December)

These holidays are falling on weekends

In the new year 2025, many holidays are falling on weekends i.e. on Saturday or Sunday. These are already non-trading days, due to which there will be no additional holiday in the stock market. These include Republic Day (26 January), Shri Ram Navami (6 April), Muharram (6 July), Bakrid (7 June).
