Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamat has recently said that taking advice from children can be beneficial in making career or business related decisions. In a recent interview with LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky for ‘The Path Video Series’, Kamat said, ‘Don’t look to the previous generation to plan 20 years ahead. Instead, look at what the children are doing. He said that business leaders should look at what a 16-year-old boy might want in the future. He said, ‘Look at what a 16-year-old boy wants and what he will do in the next 10 years. Also, look towards the younger generation for inspiration and not towards the older generation.
When asked what a 16-year-old should listen to, Nikhil Kamat said that culture, trends, consumer needs etc. play an important role in the younger generation. He said that advice from the older generation often does not meet current attitudes and expectations. For example, today’s youth spend most of their time on platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram and these platforms promote fashion, entertainment and lifestyle. Kamat believes that business units must understand these habits to remain relevant and in the field.
