While showcasing several development initiatives started by the Congress government in Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy stressed on the need to uphold cooperative federalism at the Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog held on Saturday in Delhi. Only cooperative federalism can ensure that the states get fiscal support from the Centre to finish their development projects, Reddy said.
“The progress of the nation is intrinsically linked to the progress of each of its constituent units. It is, therefore, imperative that we support, catalyse, and harness the potential of rapidly advancing states, while simultaneously extending every necessary assistance to those that are still catching up. This balance is crucial to achieving equitable national growth,” he said. “We must continue to collaborate, exchange best practices, and support one another in building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready India.”
The CM said that his government “solicits the active and constructive support” of the Centre in “transformative projects which will not only accelerate the development of Telangana but also contribute significantly to national economic and infrastructure growth”.
Reddy said that Telangana aims to contribute 8% to the national GDP by 2047. “This translates to a targeted Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of $2.4 trillion, positioning Telangana as a growth engine not just regionally, but nationally,” he said.
While Telangana currently accounts for 2.9% of India’s population, the state aspires to significantly outperform its demographic share in terms of economic contribution. “This reflects our belief in high-productivity, innovation-led, and inclusive growth. By leveraging our strengths in industry, technology, human capital, and governance, we aim to bridge this gap and emerge as one of the most dynamic and prosperous states in the Indian Union. Telangana is ready to shoulder this responsibility and lead from the front in realising the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047,” he said.
Reddy also sought clearance for the S Jaipal Reddy Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation project, “which will serve drinking water needs of 1226 villages and ensure irrigation facility to 12.36 lakh acres.”
He said that the Centre should set up a national-level task force to harness the full potential of cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. “This task force must focus on comprehensive urban development, infrastructure investment, and governance reforms specific to these metros. A dedicated and coordinated strategy for these cities will help catalyse national economic momentum, generate millions of jobs, and elevate India’s position in the global urban economy,” he said.
