In the FIR registered in connection with the Nagpur violence on March 17, Fahim Shamim Khan has been identified as a person who gathered dozens of people at at least two different places a few hours before the Nagpur riots. He was arrested on Tuesday night and will remain in police custody till 21 March. According to the second FIR lodged at Ganeshpeth police station, Khan allegedly instigated a crowd of around 500 people, causing large -scale clashes, sabotions and attacks on local police.
According to FIR, members of Bajrang Dal and VHP staged a protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave and burnt his symbolic effigy on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary. A faction of about 60 people led by Faheem Khan gathered at the police station to stop the protesters.
Who is Faheem Khan?

Faheem Shamim Khan contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as a candidate for the Minority Democratic Party from Nagpur. His election affidavit states that he has studied till 10th and now does his business.
According to the election affidavit, Khan declared assets of only Rs 75,000 and did not give any liability or annual income. However, the affidavit also revealed that three criminal cases were going on against Khan, however, none of them fall in a serious category. Khan got 1,073 votes in the election.
The FIR shows that Khan played an important role in gathering and leading the crowd. The ruckus began when members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal protested near Gandhi Gate, raised slogans against Aurangzeb’s grave and burnt a symbolic effigy.
