Thailand News: A constitutional court has suspended Thailand Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinavatra in the case of phone call leak. Patongtarn is facing increasing dissatisfaction with Cambodia to deal with the recent border dispute. The suspension order against the PM was issued by the Constitutional Court of Thailand on Tuesday (1 July). The 38 -year -old Patongtarn got the shock on the day his father and former Prime Minister Thacasin Shinavatra faced a criminal court for allegations of royal defamation.
There has been a tremendous political stir in the country after a phone call was leaked between Shinavatra and former Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen. Thousands of protesters landed on the streets of Bangkok. He demanded immediate resignation from the Prime Minister.
In this leaked call, Shinavatra, Hun Sen was heard addressing as Uncle. Commenting on the Thai military commander, he said that he made statements only to look cool which were of no use. This statement provoked anger in the public. An important ally of the ruling coalition led by Shinavatra also withdrew support.
The Prime Minister clarified this and also apologized. Before leaving for flood -affected northern Thailand tour, he told reporters that people have the right to perform peacefully. A huge crowd of protesters gathered near the Victory Monument War Memorial in Bangkok, where they were holding the flags and the Prime Minister is the enemy of the country.
The mob continued the protest despite torrential rains. This has been the biggest performance after Fu Thai Party’s return to power in 2023. Panthape Purpongpan, who is leading the performance, said that the Prime Minister should resign, as the root of the problem is the same.
The demonstration was organized by an alliance of Nationalist activists called United Force of the Land, who has been protesting against the governments of the Shinavatra family for the last two decades. Addressing the crowd, she said in a statement that the executive and Parliament are not working in the interest of democracy and constitutional monarchy.
In the midst of this entire controversy, the constitutional court of Thailand suspended the PM on Tuesday to pronounce his verdict. The court was hearing a petition seeking the removal of Prime Minister Shinavatra. The petition has been submitted by the senators, accusing the Prime Minister of non-professional behavior.
Meanwhile, Hun Sen revealed that he shared this audio with 80 politicians. Some of them leaked it. He later uploaded the entire 17 -minute conversation on his Facebook page. In this call, the recent border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia was discussed.
