DELHI-MEERUT RRTS: The trial run of Delhi-Meerut RRTs (Regional Rapid Transit System) has been successfully completed. The trial run was performed on a full corridor of 82 km from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in Meerut and was completed in less than 1 hour. The agency NCRTC, which executed the 82 km long RRTS project, said the project is in the final stages and will soon be operational for passengers.

NCRTC Chief Public Relations Officer Puneet Vats said, “Recently we did a successful trial run for the entire 82 -km corridor, and the train reached all the stops between Sarai Kale Khan (in Delhi) and Modipuram (the last station in Meerut) in less than an hour. The speed with which things are moving forward, we hope that the system will be operational very soon.

An official who has been aware of the development of the project said, “Security approval has been received for the section from Meerut (South) to Shatabdi Nagar, while inspection has started for the remaining section from Shatabdi Nagar to Modipuram. Similarly, security inspections from New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi are also in the final stages. Inspectors for local metro modules stations in Meerut will also be determined soon.

What is RRTS project?

The Regional Rapid Transit System is an 82 km long project. Its purpose is to connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut cities with Namo Bharat trains. The project was to be completed in June 2025 which is currently in the final stages. After the entire 82 km line is commissioned, the train journey from Meerut to Delhi will take 55 minutes.

Currently, Namo Bharat Train Service is operational on a 55 -km section from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut (South) in Delhi, including two in Delhi, eight in Ghaziabad and 11 in Meerut. The entire project has 24 stations, 13 of which are in Meerut. Namo Bharat trains have four stations in Meerut, while the local metro will run at all 13 stations on the same infrastructure.

Let us tell you that the entire RRTS project is being built at a cost of ₹ 30,274 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in Ghaziabad on 8 March 2019.
