Aadhaar in Assam: Now in Assam, no person above 18 years of age will be able to make Aadhaar card for the first time. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma made a big announcement on Thursday (21), saying that people above 18 years of age will not be able to make Aadhaar card for the first time in the state under precautionary measures to prevent illegal migrants from getting Indian citizenship. After the cabinet meeting, he told reporters that persons over 18 years of age will be given only one month time to apply for Aadhaar card. Provided that Aadhaar card has not been made yet.
However, he said that Aadhaar cards will be issued for the next one year to the tribals living in tea gardens, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes above 18 years of age. According to PTI, Sharma said, “The decision to ban the Aadhaar card is considered part of the efforts to ensure the authenticity of the identity of citizens. This step shows the government paying attention to to remove the concerns related to possible infiltration from Bangladesh in the last one year.”
