Indian Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement released on Wednesday that New Delhi is not aware of any anti-Bangladesh activity by members of Awami League in India. He said, ‘The government does not allow political activities against other countries from Indian land. Therefore, the press statement of the interim government of Bangladesh is wrong. In fact, Mea’s statement came when Bangladesh claimed without any evidence that Awami League’s offices were running in New Delhi and Kolkata and urged India to close them immediately.
Bangladesh had made serious allegations against India
The Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry alleged in a statement that ‘any political activity by any Bangladeshi citizen against the interests of Bangladesh, especially by absconding activists of a restricted political party, who are living on Indian earth legal or illegally, and establishing offices, is a clear insult against the people of Bangladesh and the nation.’ The statement especially mentioned the offices associated with the Awami League, allegedly established in New Delhi and Kolkata and urged India to close them.
Bangladesh is also accused in the past
Bangladesh has also been accused of giving shelter to anti -India elements, including separatist terrorists and radical Islamic groups of the Northeast. Until the early 2000s, several rebel organizations from Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya allegedly run camps inside the Bangladeshi region, which had silent support from local networks. This is also mentioned in the 2012 book ‘Great Game East’ of scholars like Indian Safety Assessment and Burtel Lintar.
