News 18 Rising Odisha: On Tuesday (August 19) at the ‘Rising Odisha’ program of News18, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee of lying and misleading claims on the allegations of Banglais’s harassment. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday accused the central government of harassment of Bengali -speaking people. He cited a report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) for this. Odisha CM has now strongly retaliated on Banerjee.
News18 Odia’s Rising Odisha Conclave In 2025 Mohan Charan Majhi said on Tuesday, “Mamata Banerjee is lying. No Indian citizen and Bengali are being disturbed or tortured in Odisha. Police are only investigating whether there is any suspected Bangladeshi migrant. Odisha has been the home of Bengalis for decades.”
The CM clearly stated that this claim of Mamta is completely false and misleading. He said, “There is neither harassment nor harassment with any Indian citizen or Bengali community in Odisha. Only Bangladeshi infiltrators are accepted. Bengalis are not being harassed.”
The Chief Minister said that those who have proper documents have no problem. Whereas only those who do not have evidence of citizenship are being asked to return to their original places. CM said, “The state government has taken care of all citizens. But if Bangladeshi infiltrators are infiltrating and snatching the livelihood of the Oriya people, then we have been ordered to take action.”
He further said, “After the creation of Partition and Bangladesh, Odisha arranged groups in many parts of the state for displaced Bengali minorities. But if Bangladeshi infiltrators are infiltrating. They are snatching the livelihood of the people of Odisha, then we have been ordered to take action.”
Majhi also mentioned the Jagannath temple built by the West Bengal government on this occasion of ‘Rising Odisha’. CM said that this initiative is a symbol of shared culture and faith between Bengal and Odisha. He said, “Our common traditions and religious relations are so deep that no cheap politics can weaken these relationships.” The Jagannath temple built in Digha, West Bengal is making the subject of the temple.
Majhi’s remarks came after Mamata Banerjee’s allegations of targeting Bengalis in Odisha. After this, there was a sharp political debate between Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. A video of May this year went viral on social media, in which West Bengal Chief Minister Odisha is heard asking questions on the alleged misconduct with Bengalis in the coastal state.
