Russian Diplomat Babushkin: Russian diplomat Roman Babushkin shocked everyone by calling the S-400 missile system ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ during a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday. In the Russian Embassy, Deputy Chief Mission Babushin was asked if India would consider systems like Iron Dome of Israel, he replied: ‘You mean Sudarshan Chakra?’ He further jokingly said, ‘Ask in Hindi next time, I can give better answers!’
Babushkin’s statement came a few days after Prime Minister Modi’s announcement of ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’ in Independence Day speech. This mission is an ambitious plan to develop an indigenous air defense shield on the lines of Israeli’s Iron Dome, which aims to protect India’s important citizen and strategic properties from external threats. What is ‘Sudarshan Chakra’?
It is an air defense system. India has bought the S-400 missile system from Russia, also known as ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ in India. The system played an important role during the military conflict with Pakistan in May and killed Pakistan’s missiles and drones.
Babushkin criticizes American trade policies
The Russian diplomat also strongly criticized the tariff imposed on India by the US, claiming that such steps reflect the lack of trust and disrespect to national sovereignty. He said that if Indian goods have difficulty in entering the US market due to the fees levied by President Donald Trump, Russia would ‘welcome’ them.
