Eid-e-milad holiday in maharashtra: Will Maharashtra be holiday due to Eid-e-Milad on Monday 8 September? Actually, the Maharashtra government has made a big change about Eid-e-Milad’s holiday. Earlier this holiday was declared on Friday 5 September 2025 but this holiday will be celebrated on Monday 8 September in Mumbai city and its suburbs. The state’s general administration department issued an official notification on Wednesday this week.
This change was made because the Muslim community has decided that the procession of Eid-e-Milad will be taken out on 8 September. The government said that this step was taken to maintain peace on the day of Anand Chaturdashi. Actually, Ganpati immersion was to be done on 6 September. In such a situation, due to the simultaneous two events, there could be problems with the crowd and the system. This was the reason that the holiday date for Mumbai and its suburbs was changed. However, the holiday in the rest of the state was kept on 5 September as before. This change was done only in Maharashtra.
Eid-e-Milad was celebrated on 5 September this year as per the list of gazetted holidays. Therefore, the holiday in government offices and schools across the country was on 5 September. But the offices in Mumbai and its suburbs remained normally open on 5 September. Globally, this festival will be celebrated from the evening of 4 September to the evening of 5 September.
Eid-e-Milad, also known as Milad-un-Nabi, is a special occasion for the Muslim community. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad Saheb and especially the Sufi and Barelvi communities celebrate it on a large scale.
