Share Market Today News Highlight : The Sensex Nifty closed modestly lower amid range-bound trading in the stock market on Wednesday. Sensex closed down 116 points at 85408 and Nifty closed down 35 points at 26142. Sensex fell to 85,342 and Nifty to 26,123 in the intra-day session. The stock market continued to decline due to selling in select stocks including IT.
Stock market index Sensex Nifty is trading positive after modest correction after opening flat. The Sensex opened at 85,533 today from the previous close of 85,524. It rose by 100 points to 85640 in the opening session. The NSE Nifty is trading around the 26200 level, up 20 points after opening at 26,170.
The rupee opened 12 paise higher against the dollar
Today, the rupee has opened down 12 paise to 89.54 against the dollar. The Indian rupee closed at 89.66 against the US currency yesterday.
IT shares sell off, Tech Mahindra and Infosys top losers
The IT index fell by 200 points and the Nifty IT index by 260 points due to the sell-off in IT stocks. Shares of heavy bluechip tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Tech, TCS were modestly soft by up to 1 percent. Midcap and smallcap are trading up as much as 170 points.

December 25 Stock market trading closed for Christmas
Investors are trading cautiously in the stock market. On BSE, 1798 shares closed higher while 2394 shares closed lower, thus the market breadth remained negative. The market cap of BSE was 475.00 lakh crore rupees. Trading in stock market, MCX and Forex exchanges will be closed on December 25 due to the Christmas festival.

Midcap and IT indices fell the most
Midcaps fell by 174 points and smallcaps by 73 points. In the soft market, IT index fell by 165 points, Capital Goods by 140 points, Consumer Durables by 220 points, Oil Gas by 214 points, FMCG by 85 points.

Today, 17 out of 30 bluechip shares of Sensex fell. In which shares of TMPV, Sun Pharma, Asian Paint, Reliance and HUL fell by 1 per cent each. Among the top 5 gainers, shares of Trent, Ultratech Cement, Maruti, Powergrid and Mahindra Mahindra improved by half to two and a half percent.
