South African Organisation Assembles Worlds Longest Line Of Lollipops

South African Organisation Assembles Worlds Longest Line Of Lollipops

The achievement resulted in a record for the longest line of lollipops.

By creating a line of 11,602 lollipops, a South African charity for aquatic rescue set a Guinness World Record. Twenty-seven volunteers from Station 5 of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) came together to test the candy-arranging records on the Durban Beachfront Promenade.

According to the Guinness World Records, on August 6, 2022, 27 volunteers from NSRI Station 5 came together in the sweltering heat for the official record attempt on Durban Beachfront Promenade. To achieve the record, the line had to be at least 9,999 lollipops long. Every single one had to be touching, so attention to detail was key. The attempt would fail if any breaks were discovered in the line, no matter how minor.

One volunteer at NSRI Station 5 Luthando Ngqulunga told Guinness World Records, “We do the most difficult work in saving lives, so laying down the lollipops will be just like a walk in the park. Plus, we are very competitive in nature.”

“The NSRI is a volunteer-led rescue organisation that is on call 24/7. It was established in 1967, following the tragic loss of three fishing vessels near Stilbaai the previous year,” reported the Guinness World Records.

“Its formation was campaigned for by Patti Price, a teacher who had been rescued by the UK’s RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) in the English Channel when she was a child.”

The main danger to their success was any severe winds that would move the lollipops. The lollipops utilised in the project, according to the institution, will be handed out during community gatherings and school presentations.

One Terrorist Arrested In Punjab, Cops Say Module Backed By Pak Spy Agency

Two sophisticated AK-56 assault rifles along with two magazines and 30 live cartridges were recovered.

Chandigarh:

Punjab police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an ISI-backed narco-terrorism module by arresting its main operative and recovering arms and explosives from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Yograj Singh alias Yog, a resident of Rajoke village in Tarn Taran district. The module was being jointly operated by Canada-based Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, Pakistan-based Harvinder Singh Rinda and Italy-based Harpreet Singh alias Happy, the police said.

The group was backed by Pakistan spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence, they said.

Amritsar Rural Police smashed the module amid an intensified vigil by the Punjab Police against anti-social elements ahead of the festival season, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here.

Besides, the police have also identified five more accomplices who were part of the group and were carrying out illegal activities across Punjab and adjoining states.

A manhunt has been launched to nab them, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Swapan Sharma said, adding that the unearthing of the “Landa-Rinda terror module” was a major success for the state police.

The police have recovered “an RDX loaded tiffin box fabricated into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) or tiffin bomb, two sophisticated AK-56 assault rifles along with two magazines and 30 live cartridges, one .30 bore pistol along with six live cartridges and 2 kg heroin from the accused”, DGP said in a statement.

DGP Yadav said that Yograj is the main operative of this module and is wanted by the state police and central enforcement agencies in at least five criminal cases, including the one where five AK-47 assault rifles were seized in Tarn Taran in September 2019.

He said preliminary investigations has revealed that the cross-border operations of arms-explosives-drugs smuggling were mainly handled by Yograj on the directions of Landa, Rinda and Happy and jailed smuggler Gurpavitar alias Sai of Lakhna of Tarn Taran.

Yograj had been active in recovery and further delivery of consignments of arms and drugs at a large scale, he added.

SSP Sharma said that further investigations are on and more recoveries of arms and explosives are expected soon

Sources said law secretaries may represent states or UTs in cases where the Chief Minister holds the law portfolio as well. The government is also planning to arrange for the law ministers to visit the Statute of Unity on the evening of the conference

The Centre is set to host law ministers of states and Union Territories across the country for a conference mid-October in Kevadia town of poll-bound Gujarat. At the conference, detailed discussions will be held on various laws proposed and enacted by the Narendra Modi government.

The conference comes just days Gujarat hosted mayors of BJP-ruled states, where they were given training in strengthening the organisation in their region as well as in poll-bound states they visit campaigning. While the mayors’ gathering was exclusive to the BJP, the law conference will invite law ministers of all states.

Many in the party believe the venue has been chosen after much deliberation keeping in mind the upcoming Assembly elections.

“There should be action on the ground and the state should be showcased, especially to those who belong to the Opposition camp. It helps in gaining momentum in the state where there are elections,” said the source.

Sources added that law secretaries may represent states or UTs in cases where the Chief Ministers hold the law portfolio as well, as it may not be possible for them to attend the conference.

The government is also planning to arrange for the law ministers to visit the Statute of Unity on the evening of the conference.

The conference is likely to discuss and deliberate on progressive steps like shedding colonial laws that were meant to serve British interests. “It is generally an enriching experience for all law ministers to adopt best practices used by other states and learn from them. It is also a platform to deliberate on steps to ensure transparency in the system or gathering an opinion from various states on laws the government would want to bring in future,” said the source.

Gujarat is slated to go to polls in December for 182 Assembly seats.

New Delhi:

A 35-year-woman was injured after being attacked on her face and back with a knife allegedly by a man who robbed her gold chain and fled the spot on a motorcycle, the Delhi Police said today.

The incident took place yesterday around 5.30 pm in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area, police said.

The woman, a resident of west Ghonda in Delhi, was returning to her home from Faridabad with her five-year-old son in a rickshaw. After getting down from the rickshaw, while she was heading towards her home, she was attacked from behind by a man.

She alleged in her statement that the man attacked her in his bid to snatch her gold chain. But resisting his attempt, she held her chain tight. However, he took out a knife and attacked her on her face and back, a senior police officer said.

The accused robbed the woman of her gold chain and ran away on the street and fled the spot with his accomplice who was waiting a few metres away on his motorcycle, he said.

Later, her brother took her to a hospital, he added.

A case has been registered under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, police said, adding further investigation is underway to nab the accused.

CCTV cameras installed in and around the vicinity of the crime scene are being analysed to identify the suspects and ascertain the sequence of events that unfolded on the day of the incident, police said.

Nobel Physics 2022 To Be Awarded To These 3 Scientists

Nobel Physics 2022 To Be Awarded To These 3 Scientists

The prize is awarded by the Nobel Assembly of Sweden’s Karolinska Institute.

New Delhi:

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 will be awarded to scientists Alain Aspect, John F Clauser and Anton Zeilinger “for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”. They conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles behave like a single unit even when they are separated. “The results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information,” the award-giving body said on Tuesday.

“Using groundbreaking experiments, Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger have demonstrated the potential to investigate and control particles that are in entangled states. What happens to one particle in an entangled pair determines what happens to the other, even if they are really too far apart to affect each other. The laureates’ development of experimental tools has laid the foundation for a new era of quantum technology,” a release said.

The prize, arguably among the most prestigious in the scientific world, is awarded by the Nobel Assembly of Sweden’s Karolinska Institute and is worth 10 million Swedish crowns ($900,357).

Created in the will of Swedish dynamite inventor and wealthy businessman Alfred Nobel, the prizes for achievements in science, literature and peace have been awarded since 1901, though the economics prize is a later addition.

Alain Aspect, John F Clauser and Anton Zeilinger awarded Nobel Prize in physics for research in quantum mechanics

NEW DELHI: The 2022 Nobel Prize in physics was awarded to Alain Aspect, John F Clauser and Anton Zeilinger for “experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”, at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm on Tuesday.
The Nobel laureates in physics have conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles behave like a single unit even when they are separated. The results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information.

While physicists often tackle problems that appear at first glance to be far removed from everyday concerns — tiny particles and the vast mysteries of space and time — their research provides the foundations for many practical applications of science.
Intense research and development are underway to utilise the special properties of individual particle systems to construct quantum computers, improve measurements, build quantum networks and establish secure quantum encrypted communication.
Last year the prize was awarded to three scientists — Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi — whose work has helped to explain and predict complex forces of nature, thereby expanding our understanding of climate change.
A week of Nobel Prize announcements kicked off on Monday with Swedish scientist Svante Paabo receiving the award in medicine for unlocking secrets of Neanderthal DNA that provided key insights into our immune system.

They continue with chemistry on Wednesday and literature on Thursday. The 2022 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday and the economics award on October 10.

The prizes carry a cash award of 10 million Swedish kronor (nearly $900,000) and will be handed out on December 10.

Meet the 3 scientists who were awarded Nobel Prize in physics 2022 | World News

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 was awarded to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger on Tuesday at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. The scientists were given the most prestigious award in science owing to their “experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.”

Here’s a look at the three scientists who were awarded the Nobel Prize 2022:

John F. Clauser

The US scientist developed John Bell’s ideas leading to a practical experiment which supported quantum mechanics by clearly violating a Bell inequality. The result was that quantum mechanics could not be replaced by a theory that uses hidden variables, the Nobel Prize committee said.

Alain Aspect

Following John Clauser’s experiment, Alain Aspect developed a setup that was able to switch measurement settings after an entangled pair had left its source.

Anton Zeilinger

The scientist from university of Vienna, Austria used refined tools and experiments- entangled quantum states. His research demonstrated a phenomenon called quantum teleportation, which makes it possible to move a quantum state from one particle to other at a distance.
